Definition of NEFARIOUS: flagrantly wicked or impious : EVIL
[According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary]

Nefarious. This unknown adjective is used as the title of one of the most modern and affective documentaries ever made: “Nefarious: Merchant of Souls”. This 90 minute movie was made by Exodus Cry, an abolitionist organization, to bring global and local awareness to the issue of human sex-trafficking.
A Movement Begins
Benjamin Nolot, the writer and director of this movie is also the founder of Exodus Cry. He, along with his wife and a few other abolitionists, began the organization as a prayer meeting in 2007. This prayer meeting constituted several hundred abolitionists coming together and pleading with God for a miraculous breakthrough in the industry. It was the very next day that 2,400 arrests occurred in 77 countries. Being newly introduced to the issue by some friends, Nolot felt a true burden from God to fight against this wicked industry and viewed this breakthrough as a sign from the Lord to start this abolitionist movement.
The movement began and not too long afterwards, Nolot and some of his close companions traveled to Southeast Asia to get a real feel for the growing world of sex-trafficking. After recording interviews with perpetrators and pimps and witnessing horrific sites at karaoke bars, massage parlors and other centers of the sex trade, Exodus Cry began to feel the burning desire to produce the Nefarious films.
A $10,000 Gift
As with any movie production, however, there is a cost involved. Before showing the film at William Jessup University on November 2nd, Benjamin Nolot shared a bit of his story. He informed the audience that a woman walked up to him (where and when unknown), knowing who he was and how he was spurring the abolitionist movement and informed him that even though he did not know who she was, God told her to give him a $10,000 check. Exodus Cry put their best foot forward and began the movie production right away.
The Nefarious film brings to life the realness of sex-trafficking both locally and globally. It explains the logistics: what is happening to the victims, how and why is this industry growing, how it is being combated and what can we do right here, right now to begin fighting against it.
The best part of the documentary is by far the ending. Exodus Cry was sure to end the film by displaying how victims can be rescued and reintegrated into society. The fact of the matter is that God is bigger than any sinful, wicked industry that can exist in our world; this is a crucial fact when examining how out of control sex slavery appears to be.
Nefarious is an effective, impactful film that brings the low-lying issue of slavery to the surface, but a film cannot do all the work. God has called all of us through His Word to go forth and care for the widows, the orphans and the sick, to spread the gospel to all nations, and to be the hands and feet of Christ. Spread the word, bring awareness, take action! You are no longer ignorant to the reality of this injustice. How will you act out?
